27 Jul 2021

On Monday 26 July, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam visited Hoan My Thu Duc International General Hospital to provide encouragement and to discuss the emergency Covid-19 strategy with the leaders of the hospital and Ho Chi Minh City. The Chairman of the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, Hoang Tung, also joined the delegation.

The visit marked Ho Chi Minh City officially approving the temporary conversion of Hoan My Thu Duc International General Hospital to an emergency Covid-19 treatment centre. Hoan My Thu Duc is the first private hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to receive Covid-19 patients.

The emergency facilities provide a practical solution to sharing the burden of the city’s public health sector in treating Covid-19 patients, as Vietnam endures a further wave of the virus.

Hoan My Thu Duc International General Hospital, which in late 2020 became the 15th hospital in the Hoan My Medical Corporation, Vietnam’s largest private healthcare group, will put 100 beds into operation next week for Covid-19 treatment. The move answered the call from Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to local health facilities to urgently support the Covid-19 treatment effort. Hoan My Thu Duc’s location, around ten kilometres from the Covid-19 Intensive Care Hospital, makes it convenient to transport patients between the two facilities.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that he was very touched by the selfless dedication of those fighting the pandemic. Hoan My has proudly welcomed the voluntary participation at the emergency centre of more than 3,000 medical staff from across its 15 hospitals and six clinics. For phase two of the plan, Hoan My plans to raise the number of beds to 200, in the near future.
